WHAT IS A RATIONAL FIRE DESIGN?

A Rational Fire Design is applicable to any building design where i.e. a Fire Detection and Alarm System forms  part of the overall Approval Process (The Fire Protection Plan) in accordance with SANS 10400 Part T (Fire Protection)

Rational Designs are:

- Any Fire Detection and Alarm Systems

- Automatic Sprinkler Systems

Rational Assessments are:

WHO MAY INSTALL NEW FIRE HOSE REELS AND FIRE HYDRANTS?

 

Registered Fire Companies in accordance with SANS 1475 and installers who are SAQCC Registered. Plumbers and Civil Contractors prepare all Pipe Work to the take off point for the installation of Fire Hose Reels and Fire Hydrants. The installed equipment is under a manufacturer's guarantee for 12 months after which these equipment must undergo an annual routine maintenance check every 12 months thereafter in accordance with the Community Fire Safety By-Law 5832 of 2002/2007 as amended and other Province By-Laws. All New installed fire equipment must display a service decal/ sticker informing the end user of its next due maintenance check.

 

WHO MAY SERVICE/ MAINTAIN FIRE HOSE REELS, FIRE HYDRANTS AND FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?

 

Only SABS Listed, Registered Fire Companies and Technicians who are SAQCC Registered may annually perform maintenance checks on Fire Equipment and a Workshop Approved by the SABS.

 

MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS TAKEN FROM MY PREMISES AND NEVER RETURNED?

 

BEWARE of Persons parading as Registered Companies. ALWAYS ask for proof of Technician and Company registration. Insist on seeing marked Service Vehicles arriving and take down the Vehicle Registration Number. Registered Companies removing Fire Equipment from the premises, must ensure replacement Fire Equipment in order that the Fire Protection of the premises is not compromised.
